Discover Kingston: A Coastal Gem in Southern Tasmania

Kingston, a lively coastal town just a 15-minute drive from Hobart, offers a mix of beautiful beaches, family-friendly parks, and a laid-back vibe that makes it a popular destination.

Explore Kingston Beach

Sitting at the heart of Kingston, Kingston Beach is a favourite among beachgoers. This long, sandy stretch offers safe swimming areas, a relaxed atmosphere, and stunning views of the Derwent River. It’s a fantastic spot for a summer dip or a leisurely walk along the shore. There’s even a dedicated off-lead dog area at the northern end, so your furry friends can join in the fun.

Beachgoers will find ample parking, picnic areas, and BBQ facilities, making it an excellent spot for family outings. With grassy banks and shady trees nearby, there are plenty of places to lay out a picnic rug, have lunch, or simply unwind.

Kingston Beach Activities

Kingston Beach isn’t just about swimming—it offers something for everyone. The gentle waves are ideal for stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking, while the surrounding cliffs make it a great place for beach fishing. Keep an eye out for native birdlife, such as seagulls, cormorants, and the occasional sea eagle soaring above.

For those keen on exploring further, the Alum Cliffs Track starts near Kingston Beach and leads to Tyndall Beach in Taroona. This 2.5 km coastal walk provides spectacular views across the Derwent River and is a popular trail among locals.

For something more refined, you’ll find restaurants serving a variety of local produce, craft beers, and Tasmanian wines, perfect for a relaxed evening with a view.

Kingston Park

Away from the beach, Kingston Park is a large open space designed for families and community events. It features a fantastic adventure playground, picnic areas, and walking tracks that loop through native bushland. This park is a great spot to spend a sunny afternoon, whether you’re with kids, friends, or enjoying a quiet stroll.
