The Oatlands Highland Gathering returns to Callington Park on Saturday, 21st March 2026, bringing a spectacular celebration of Scottish culture, music, and tradition to Tasmania’s Midlands. The gathering also hosts the Tasmanian Pipe Band Championships, where bands from across the state, compete for the state title.
Oatlands has a strong connection to Scottish and Irish heritage, with regiments and their iconic pipers and drummers once calling the town home.
Today, Tasmania has eight active pipe bands, each with its own strong local identity and history. The Oatlands Highland Gathering brings these bands together to compete in the Tasmanian Pipe Band Championships, showcasing the skill, discipline, and musical tradition of the state’s pipe band community.
This year’s event will also feature the first public performance of Tasmania’s newly formed eighth pipe band, an exciting milestone for the local scene. Historically, Tasmania supported as many as fifteen pipe bands, so seeing the number grow again is a point of pride for the community.
Whether you have Gaelic, Celtic, or Scottish ancestry or simply love the energy of a Highland Gathering, this is your chance to don your kilts, tartans, and sporrans! Feel free to dress up and fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere—after all, the more tartan, the better!
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy performances from competing bands and massed band displays featuring well‑known marches such as ‘Scotland the Brave’ and ‘The Black Bear’. These performances sit alongside the formal competition events that determine the Tasmanian champions.
