Getting There

To reach Snug Falls, drive south from Hobart along the Southern Outlet (A6) for 10 km. Take the Kingston Bypass, then continue on the Channel Highway (B68) for another 10 km until you reach Snug.

Turn right onto Snug Tier Road, just before the primary school, and after 1 km, take a left onto Snug Falls Road.

The trailhead is well signposted, with ample parking available nearby.

Your adventure begins in dry sclerophyll forest, where the trail gently descends towards the fern-lined gully below. As you follow the well-marked path, you’ll find yourself surrounded by towering eucalypts and an array of native flora. In spring and summer, keep an eye out for vibrant orchids, while winter brings the flutter of eastern spinebills among the pink and white heath. The sweet nectar of silver banksia flowers also attracts crescent and yellow-throated honeyeaters, as well as green rosellas.

Snug Falls

After a 25-minute walk, you’ll reach the base of Snug Falls, where a 25-meter-high waterfall cascades into a narrow, gorge-like amphitheatre.

The falls are particularly captivating after heavy rain when the water flow is most impressive.

During summer, the shallow pools at the base offer a refreshing spot to cool your feet and soak in the serenity of the surroundings.

For Photographers

Snug Falls provides a wealth of opportunities. The falls’ natural framing by the surrounding forest, fallen logs, and cliffs makes for stunning compositions from multiple angles.

Practical Information

Snug Falls is accessible year-round, thanks to the consistent flow of water from the Snug River and its tributaries. The trail, while generally easy, can become slippery and muddy after rain, so take care as you navigate the descent.

The walk is dog-friendly as long as your furry companion is kept on a leash.
