Embark on a journey from Hobart to the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, a region that embodies the beauty and coastal charm of Southern Tasmania.
Begin your journey south from Hobart along the Southern Outlet (A6), taking in views of the Derwent River as you make your way toward the charming coastal town of Margate.
Your first stop is the Channel Museum, where you can immerse yourself in the rich history of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. This museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s past, from early European exploration to the lives of the settlers and industries that shaped the area.

Next, head to Snug for a dose of nature. The 2 km return Snug Falls Track offers an easy and enjoyable walk, making it an ideal stop for anyone exploring the area.
Turn right onto Snug Tier Road, just before the primary school, and after 1 km, take a left onto Snug Falls Road. The trailhead is well signposted, with ample parking available nearby. View the location on Google Maps.
Continue south to Peppermint Bay in Woodbridge for a delicious lunch overlooking the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island.
With a seasonally changing menu from produce grown in their own gardens and from local growers. Feel free to wander through the garden and check out what’s in season – it’s sure to end up on your plate.

Step into the rustic charm of The Ewenique Tasting House and farm, where you can savour the authentic flavours of their famous sheep whey spirits and delicious sheep milk cheeses.
Open daily between 11am and 4pm (Closed Xmas and Boxing Day). They are happy to accommodate walk-ins, but please book in advance to guarantee a place on a tour. View location on Google Maps.
Finally, head a little further south to Mewstone Winery and Cellar Door.
The Tasting Room is open Friday to Sunday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Flights are $25 each and include tastes of eight pre-selected wines. All booked tastings will be seated, and your group will be hosted by one of their friendly cellar door staff. View location on Google Maps.
When ready, return to Hobart, retracing your route along the picturesque channel. The return journey to Hobart will take around 45 minutes.
