The Expo honours Cressy’s rich angling history, celebrates the excitement of springtime in the Midlands, and showcases why this rural township is famously known as the ‘Gateway to Trout Fishing Paradise’.

Event Highlights

Cressy’s Brumby’s Creek comes alive for the Expo, offering something for all ages:

  • The centrepiece is the famous tagged trout competition, with fantastic prizes including a $10,000 tagged trout and a range of other tagged fish for lucky anglers.

  • The event is free entry and—uniquely for the year—a licence-free fishing day, making trout fishing accessible for first-timers, families, and seasoned locals alike.

  • Everyone can enjoy a free sausage sizzle from 10:30 AM to 1 PM while stocks last, and kids are treated to fun giveaways throughout the morning.

  • ‘Taste of Trout’ returns, offering delicious samples of locally prepared, smoked Tasmanian trout fresh from the region’s pristine waters.

  • Bring a picnic and settle in for a relaxed, festive atmosphere along the creek, with plenty of open space to enjoy a classic rural spring day in northern Tasmania.

National Gone Fishing Day

This year’s Expo coincides with National Gone Fishing Day, supported by Anglers Alliance Tasmania and local partners, further ensuring a big turnout and an inclusive spirit for participants of all skill levels. Young people, in particular, are encouraged to give fishing a try at the Junior Angling Day event, making it a great introduction to the sport.

Experience Cressy

Situated just 20 minutes from Launceston, Cressy is famed for its authentic rural charm and as the starting point for many of Tasmania’s greatest trout fishing adventures. Visitors will find history around every corner—from historic farm stays to charming bakeries—and are always welcomed by the friendly local community eager to share fishing tips and tales.
