There’s something special about wandering a country market on a crisp Tassie morning — hot coffee in hand, and market stalls filled with things you didn’t know you needed until you saw them. Whether you’re chasing fresh veg, hand-made treasures, or a Thursday night feed, here’s your local Huon Valley Market guide.
First and third Sunday, 10am to 2pm – Cygnet Town Hall and Car Park
Sitting inside the beautifully weathered town hall, the Cygnet Market is cosy year-round and packed with local creativity, plants and produce. What began with three stalls now sits at around 40 makers, growers, and musicians. Expect fresh produce, handmade pieces, art, baked goods, bric-a-brac and that familiar Cygnet buzz.
Second Sunday (September to May), 10am to 2pm – Calvert Park, Judbury
A proper hidden gem beside the Huon River. Judbury Market has a family-friendly feel, plenty of local stalls, and one of the best market kitchens around. Think Devonshire tea, Judbury burgers, tempura mushrooms, Bruny oysters, and Dutch oliebollen. Kids love the treehouse playground, and the riverside track is perfect for a short stroll between snacks.
Fourth Sunday (September to May), 10am to 2pm – Palais Theatre, Franklin
Found in and around Franklin’s iconic Palais Theatre, this monthly market brings together local makers, woodcraft, plants, books, produce, and a solid lineup of food stalls. It’s relaxed, friendly, and perfectly paired with a wander along the waterfront or a bite in town.
Every Saturday, 10am to 2pm – Grove
If you’re serious about Huon Valley produce, this is your weekly stop. The Apple Shed hosts an ever-changing mix of artisans and growers: ceramics, leatherwork, honey, art, preserves, and more. Fuel up with a coffee or late brekky from the kitchen, then browse with live music drifting through the shed.
First Thursday, 5pm to 8pm – Geeveston Town Hall
A warm, easygoing evening feast that brings the Far South together. Held on the first Thursday of every month, this family friendly night out fills the historic Geeveston Town Hall with the smell of good food and the hum of happy locals. You’ll find a great mix of food trucks and stalls dishing up proper Tasmanian comfort, along with a bar pouring local wine, beer and cider to match whatever’s on your plate.
It’s free, relaxed, and welcomes everyone — just rock up hungry. There’s plenty of parking and all the amenities you need, making it one of the easiest (and tastiest) ways to kick off the month.
