Richmond Bicentenary

Richmond Bicentenary is an initiative of Clarence City Council in association with Richmond Village Fair and Events and local community. A program of five themed long ‘Weekends in the Valley’ will frame the Bicentenary.

Weekend 1. Bicentenary Launch (8-11 December 2023)
Bridge Street community town parade (10 December 2023), with recognition of traditional owners, and commemoration of laying the Richmond Bridge foundation stone.

Weekend 2. Richmond History Festival (18–22 January 2024)
Talks, exhibitions, collectors’ roadshow (21 January 2024), guided tours, and events focused on Richmond and the Coal River Valley and its role in Tasmanian development.

Weekend 3. Convict Muster – Heritage Farming Expo (9-12 February 2024)
Explore convict ancestry with keynote speakers, convict history-themed talks and music.
Heritage Farming Expo at Summer Hill, highlighting the contribution of convict farm labour.

Weekend 4. Bicentenary of Town Proclamation (23-27 February 2024)
Explore Richmond’s architecture – featuring Open House Richmond (24-25 February), with special events, walks and talks, and exhibitions. Presented with the Australian Institute of Architects.

Weekend 5. Fruits of the Valley (8-11 March 2024)
Celebrate the 2024 harvest: Richmond Village Fair and a Street Party for residents.

Complementary events, exhibitions, and performances will be presented throughout the Bicentenary.
