Tasmanian Art Society exhibitions are open Saturdays and Sundays and are held in the historic Lady Franklin Gallery which was built in convict times.
This month’s exhibition is by award-winning artist Sally James. She specialises in reduction linocut printmaking in oil, building up layers of transparent colour to create the effect of warm, glowing light.
She combines different techniques to create free-flowing soft edges and textures, manipulating the oil inks with hand, cloth and brush. Sally’s art often depicts the wild landscapes of Tasmania, but she also frequently draws inspiration from areas within and alongside the suburban areas of everyday life, always striving to portray the feel of the place that inspired her.
