Hawthorn Lodge has been welcoming guests since 1869. The tradition of hospitality originating with the pioneering Shoobridge family, the original owners continues today at this very popular, historic lodge.

Hawthorn Lodge is heritage listed with beautiful gardens and magnificent trees including the oldest Magnolia in Australia. An established orchard and market garden provides most of the produce for the restaurant and tearooms. Award winning scones and jams are served on the veranda or by the fireplace.

Bushy Park is a good location to base yourself for Southern Tasmania being 40 minutes from Hobart and very close to Mt Field with the famous Russell Falls and extensive walking trails. New Norfolk the main town in the Derwent Valley is 10 minutes. Day drives in all directions provide plenty of diversity and interest. Hawthorn Lodge is an excellent transit stop if driving along the West Coast.

Hawthorn Lodge offers both ensuite rooms and those with shared bathrooms. All set up to ensure a perfect night’s sleep with extremely comfortable beds and top quality linen. All stays come with continental breakfast with homemade bread and jams and fruit from the garden.

An excellent value dinner is available crafted from local produce sourced from the market garden and local farmers.

The owners are passionate about the local produce in the Derwent Valley and stock in the gift shop much that is produced.

For those without a car Hawthorn Lodge offers a number of packages and provides transfers from Hobart Airport which is one hour away. This includes Overland Track transfers to the start and finish.

Bushy Park is the home of “hops”, guests will enjoy evening walks to the original Oast houses built by Ebenezer Shoobridge.
