Exhibition: “Anthropocene Me” by Linda Crispin

19th September 2019

Anthropocene Me by artist Linda Crispin examines an individual’s contribution to the exponential increase of waste in our current age. In Linda’s detailed portraits, a young woman interacts with plastic waste items – spewing out plastic straws, covering her ears with plastic coffee cups and covering her eyes with plastic packaging.
The epoch of the Anthropocene is defined by the impact that humans have had on the Earth’s geology and ecosystems.
Every piece of plastic you have ever used in your life still exists. That piece of cling wrap that your Mum wrapped your assorted creams in before she put them in your plastic lunchbox; that yoghurt tub you bought in the second week of October 2001; the garbage bag currently lining your bin, slowly being filled with plastic from your packaged fruit and vegetables. You don’t see it, but it is all still out there.
Anthropocene Me opens on Thursday 29 August at 6 pm and runs until 21 September.
Linda will be at MAC on Saturday 21 September at 1 pm for Conversations. This is a free, casual event where you can meet artists currently exhibiting at MAC and hear more about the stories behind their work.
