Memories of Blackmans Bay

26th March 2019

This display of photographs and stories shows some of the changes in the “look” and “feel” of Blackmans Bay since the arrival of Europeans.
Blackmans Bay was first settled in the early 1800s. After several phases of subdivision, shacks and holiday homes began to appear by the late 1920s. Orcharding and mixed farming activities continued alongside the holiday village for many years.
Subsequent growth was slow until the opening of the Southern Outlet in 1969. Since then, there have been successive waves of suburban building.
