Bruny Island is not just a place of natural beauty, it is also a foodie haven.

When visiting the small island, you might be surprised by the abundance of incredible local produce on offer.

Located a short 30-minute drive from nipaluna / Hobart, and a short ferry ride, Bruny Island might be close to the city, but a visit here will make you feel like you are miles from anywhere.

Bruny Island Cheese

Tassie cheese? Yes, please! A visit to Bruny Island Cheese is a must when experiencing the island. Crafted by local farmer Nick Haddow using traditional techniques, Bruny Island cheese’s selection changes seasonally and is regarded as one of Australia’s finest artisan cheeses.

The onsite restaurant offers delicious cheese plates and locally made beers in a beautiful native setting. Top tip: try the baked cheese!

Get Shucked Oysters

Nothing says Tasmania like some freshly shucked oysters. Drop in to Get Shucked Oysters, find a spot in the sun and enjoy some delicious oysters and a glass of Tassie sparkling wine.

Alternatively, pick up some takeaway oysters from the drive-through station and enjoy a gourmet picnic on the beach.

Bruny Island Honey

Drop by The Bruny Island Honey Company on the island and pick up tasty Tasmanian honey.

Open 7 days, the honey varieties include Fennel Honey, Forest, Bruny Island Bush, Leatherwood, Manuka, and plenty more!

Bruny Baker

Nothing beats freshly baked sourdough and cakes and the Bruny Baker does it oh-so-well.

Not only are their homemade baked goods delicious, they also serve them out of a very cool vintage fridge on the side of the road.

The fridge can be found on the corner of Sheepwash Road and Main Road, Bruny Island.

Bruny Island Chocolate

Drop by the cute little Bruny Island Chocolate shop and indulge in some chocolate treats.

Located at Adventure Bay, the chocolate shop is the perfect place to pick up some treats for your adventures around the island.

The shop is open daily from 10 am – 4 pm at 55 Adventure Bay Rd.

The Bruny Island House of Whisky is the perfect place for whisky lovers to taste some of Tasmania’s finest.

Drop-in and explore the wide range of spirits and be guided by the knowledgeable staff. 

Bruny Island Premium Wines

Located in the south of the island, Bruny Island Premium Wines is the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon. Enjoy lunch in the on-site restaurant which features a wide range of local producers and sip their delicious Tasmanian wines.  The cellar door and restaurant is open from 11 am for lunch, 7 days, and Saturday nights from 6 pm.

Bruny Island Raspberry Farm

During the berry season (mid-November to March), Bruny Island Raspberry Farm is handpicking the fresh raspberry, and other berry produce daily.

Bruny Island Raspberry Farm fruit is available for tasting and purchase at their farm gate. They make a variety of preserves, ice creams, cakes and raspberry crepes with all-natural and locally sourced ingredients.

Enjoy delicious seafood while overlooking the stunning Adventure Bay at Bruny Island Cruises Restaurant.

Featuring Tasmanian market fish, homemade soups, and baguettes packed with fresh ingredients, the restaurant is the perfect place to refuel after cruising around the Bruny coastline.  

The restaurant serves meals between 11 am and 3 pm daily.

Hotel Bruny

Hotel Bruny is the perfect place to enjoy dinner and a drink when visiting Bruny.

Serving fresh Tassie seafood and the pub classics, the hotel’s relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff make it a popular spot for visitors and locals alike.

Find a spot in the sun on the deck in the warmer months or sip warm cider by the fire in winter.

The Bruny Hotel can be found in Alonnah and is open 7 days from midday.

Bruny Island Wild – Food & Events

The architecturally designed building overlooks the D’entrecasteaux Channel and the mountains beyond.

It houses a Café, a special purpose room with Wood Fired oven and space for cooking classes.

Bruny Island Wild is open on weekends, so please phone ahead to ensure your preferred time is available.

TASMANIAN SEAFOOD SEDUCTION

Jump aboard Pennicott’s little yellow boat and explore the waters off Bruny Island with the Tasmanian Seafood Seduction cruise. Visit a salmon farm, enjoy freshly shucked oysters and rock lobster and watch your guide dive for abalone and sea urchin. Enjoy a feast onboard the boat, complemented with Tasmanian wine, beer and cider while you enjoy the pristine scenery of the region.
