Welcome, little moths, flutter towards the light! The red light, that is. (We promise you won’t get zapped this time.)

Aaah… what?

To welcome interlopers to Dark Mofo, local businesses are warming the night with red lights, red lanterns, and red decorations. The lights are on from Monday 4 June for the duration of the festival, until it all winds up on Sunday 24 June.

You’re a winner, son.

See, your mum was right! We like to think that everyone who participates and goes out to enjoy the lights is a winner (good on you for finally putting yourself out there). But, we should mention, there is a super competitive, super exciting photo competition happening which will see an actual winner crowned!

Because we heart democracy, the good people of Hobart and beyond get to decide this year’s winner. The People’s Poll will be run in partnership with The Mercury, so remember to cast your vote (and try not to go too mad with power).

And just what might I win?

There are some awesome prizes up for grabs, including: two nights accommodation in a Spa Suite at Hadley’s Orient Hotel, one family pass for the Twin River Rafting experience at Tahune Adventures, two season passes for the 2019 Dark Mofo + City of Hobart Winter Feast, and a Tasmanian Hamper from Brooke Street Larder (more info + T&Cs here).

Ok, so where’s the action at?

There are lots of places lighting the night in the city, around the waterfront, in Battery Point, and Hobart’s surrounds. Participants are also dotted throughout Greater Hobart, the Southern Trove, the Tasman Peninsula, the Derwent Valley, and Tasmania’s Central Highlands.

Can I stickybeak at last year’s entries?

You sure can. For inspiration, have a gander at last year’s winning and shortlisted photos, plus other sizzling 2017 snaps. You can also check out #pttr2018 to keep up with what’s being posted throughout this year’s Dark Mofo festival.

Best of luck to you! Remember, if you’ve had fun, you’ve won. (Just to clarify, only one winner snags the actual prize pack…)
