Who doesn’t love getting something for free? There are loads of amazing events and installations to explore at Dark Mofo this year that won’t cost you a cent! Here are three of our top picks.

TMAG has been transformed into a magical world of shipwrecks, stormy seas, love and heart-wrenching tragedy! Inspired by Shakespeare’s late, great romance, internationally acclaimed curator Juliana Engberg conceived and developed Tempest with historic and contemporary works. Swim ashore and join the merrymaking at the grand opening on 10 June, with food, live music, and fire.
Opening Friday 10 June, 5 – 10pm.

A Galaxy of Suns
Ever wondered what stars sound like? The TSO Chorus opens this year’s Dark Mofo festival in Dark Park, with a very special project by visual artist Michaela Gleave, who drew inspiration from the star laden skies above the North West Coast, and composer Amanda Cole, who created the full score. The choristers will sing the rising and setting of the stars, in real time. Don’t forget to look up!
5pm, Friday 10 June, Dark Park.

Asylum (Entry by Mirror Only)
While this one won’t cost you dollars or cents, you will need to pay in mirror. Renowned Australian performance artist Mike Parr is taking over the grounds of the former Royal Derwent Hospital with a confronting installation (Asylum) of video, sound, photos, objects, and an interactive piece. Most intensely of all, for 72 hours without respite Parr will draw and remember his late brother, Tim, in his performance piece Entry by Mirror Only.
