Platypus Riverside Cottage

The Platypus Riverside Cottage offers self-contained accommodation absolute riverfront at Westerway, a 55-minute drive from Hobart and just a five-minute drive from Russell Falls and Mt. Field National Park.
The Cottage is a self-contained fully equipped two bedroom cottage on the Tyenna River. The main bedroom has a queen size bed and overlooks the river just metres away. There is a second bedroom with two single beds.
Enjoy alfresco dining on the river deck listening to the babbling Tyenna River where you may spot one of the resident platypi. Fish one of the best trout rivers in Tasmania, or just enjoy the unique experience of being ‘by the river’.
Whether you’ve been wine tasting, browsing the local craft galleries, enjoying the eateries, walking the beautiful forests and mountain tracks of nearby Mt Field National Park, viewing the wild scenery of the South West World Heritage Area and Lake Pedder, gazing at the world’s tallest hardwood trees in the Styx Valley, watching the local wildlife and waterfalls, the Platypus Playground offers a warm and welcome haven.
All linen and cooking facilities are provided.

We acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their enduring custodianship of lutruwita / Tasmania. We honour 40,000 years of uninterrupted care, protection and belonging to these islands, before the invasion and colonisation of European settlement.

As a destination that welcomes visitors to these lands, we acknowledge our responsibility to represent to our visitors, Tasmania’s deep and complex history, fully, respectfully and truthfully.

We acknowledge the Aboriginal people who continue to care for this country today. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present. We honour their stories, songs, art, and culture, and their aspirations for the future of their people and these lands. We respectfully ask that tourism be a part of that future.
