Markets on Tasmania’s Heritage Highway

Country markets, local makers and second-hand finds

Markets are a good reason to slow down while travelling Tasmania’s Heritage Highway. Across the region, community halls, school grounds and historic properties regularly fill with stalls selling local produce, handmade goods, plants, baked treats, collectables and pre-loved treasures.

Some markets operate year-round, while others are seasonal. From the busy weekly market at Evandale to smaller community gatherings in Liffey, Oatlands, Campania, Tunbridge, Ross and Campbell Town, each offers a different glimpse into life across Tasmania’s Midlands.

Market schedules can change, particularly around public holidays and during winter. Check with the organisers before making a special trip.

Evandale Market

When: Every Sunday, 8am–1.30pm
Where: Falls Park, Logan Road, Evandale

Evandale Market is one of the largest and longest-running regular markets in the region, with more than 100 stalls spread across indoor and outdoor areas.

Browse fresh produce, plants, food, clothing, tools, collectables, second-hand goods and all sorts of unexpected finds. With plenty of variety and a lively country-market atmosphere, it is an easy addition to a Sunday visit to Evandale.

Allow some extra time to explore the village’s Georgian streets, heritage buildings, galleries and cafés while you are there.

Evandale Sunday Market

Liffey Valley Market

When: Second Saturday of the month, September to April, excluding January
Time: 9am–1pm
Where: Old Liffey School, 1443 Liffey Road, Liffey

Held in the grounds of the Old Liffey School, the Liffey Valley Market is a small seasonal market surrounded by the rural landscape of the Liffey Valley.

Stalls may include upcycled and pre-loved treasures, bric-a-brac, homemade baked goods, plants, vegetables, handicrafts and collectables. Refreshments are available inside the hall, making it a relaxed place to stop, browse and catch up with the local community.

The market generally operates from spring through autumn and does not run during January.

Liffey Valley Market

Oatlands Community Market

When: First Sunday of the month
Time: 10am–2pm
Where: Oatlands District High School Gym, High Street, Oatlands

The Oatlands Community Market follows a simple theme: made, grown and recycled.

Inside you may find hand-knitted goods, wooden bowls, jewellery, books, games, puzzles, biscuits, cakes, plants, garden produce and tables of bric-a-brac. The mix varies from month to month, so part of the fun is seeing what has turned up.

After visiting the market, continue into the centre of Oatlands to explore its sandstone streetscape, local shops and historic landmarks.

Oatlands Community Market

Campania Country Market

When: Second Sunday of the month during summer
Time: 9am–1pm
Where: Campania Memorial Hall, 45 Reeve Street, Campania

Campania Country Market is a seasonal farmers market held during the warmer months at the Campania Memorial Hall.

The market offers an opportunity to browse local produce and country market stalls while visiting this small Coal River Valley township. As the market runs seasonally, check that it is operating before planning your visit.

Tunbridge Market

When: Second Sunday of the month
Time: 9am–3pm
Where: Tunbridge Community Hall, Tunbridge

The Tunbridge Market is held each month at the town’s community hall.

This local market brings stallholders and visitors together in one of the Heritage Highway’s smaller historic villages. Stop to browse the changing selection of stalls, then take a look around Tunbridge and its surrounding rural landscape.

Tunbridge Market

Ross Village Market

When: Third Sunday of the month
Time: 9am–2pm
Where: Ross

Ross Village Market brings local handicrafts, produce and homemade treats to the heart of one of Tasmania’s best-known historic villages.

Browse the stalls before exploring Ross Bridge, the village’s Georgian streetscape, heritage buildings, bakeries and local shops. The market makes a relaxed addition to a Sunday drive through the Midlands.

Church on Sundays

When: Last Sunday of the month
Time: 11am–3pm
Where: The Church Tasmania, 55 High Street, Campbell Town
Entry: Free

Church on Sundays brings together live music, food and stalls from local makers and creators within the grounds of The Church Tasmania.

The fully fenced heritage property provides an inviting setting to browse, listen to live music and spend a few hours in Campbell Town. Entry is free, and the mix of stalls and entertainment may vary between events.

Planning your Heritage Highway market visit

Several markets can be combined with a wider day trip through the Heritage Highway region. You might spend Sunday morning at Evandale Market, explore Ross after its monthly village market or browse Oatlands Community Market before walking through the town’s sandstone streets.
