2026 Autumn Photography Competition

Capture Autumn in Southern Tasmania

Autumn in Southern Tasmania is something special. Golden leaves drift through country towns, mist settles across the Derwent, Huon and Coal River Valleys, vineyards glow amber, and the soft afternoon light over rivers and waterways makes everything look a little bit magic.

This year we’re celebrating it all with the 2026 Southern Tasmania Autumn Photography Competition, and you’re invited to join in.

Maybe you’re snapping a quick photo on your phone while wandering the city. Maybe you’re setting up a tripod to chase that perfect sunrise. Either way, this is a good excuse to get out there, explore a little further, and share how you see Southern Tasmania in autumn.

What You Could Win

The winning autumn photograph will receive:

A night’s accommodation at The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart, including breakfast for two (estimated value $678.00*).

The Tasman puts you right in the heart of Hobart’s waterfront precinct, close to Salamanca, the MONA Ferry terminal, the Derwent harbour and the city centre. Original sandstone corridors and heritage details blend with sleek, modern design, creating a stay that feels both classic and contemporary – ideal for a post-shoot wind-down after a big day of autumn photography.

We’ll also regularly feature shortlisted Southern Tasmania autumn images across Hobart & Beyond’s social channels, website and newsletters, always crediting and linking back to the photographer’s Instagram page.

Tips for Autumn Photography in Southern Tasmania

Need a bit of inspiration for your autumn Tasmania shots?

  • Chase the leaves: Look for tree-lined streets and parks around Hobart, New Norfolk and Richmond for colourful foliage.

  • Head for water: Rivers, lakes and the coast give you reflections, mist and moody cloud shots on cooler autumn mornings.

  • Explore villages and valleys: The Huon Valley, Derwent Valley and Coal River Valley offer orchards, vineyards and farm scenes that really pop in autumn light.

  • Play with timing: Try early mornings for fog and soft light, or late afternoons for warm golden-hour glow over the Derwent River.

Remember to always include your location in the caption so your autumn Southern Tasmania photography entry is eligible.
