Winter is upon us and rather than hibernating from the cold, Tasmania comes alive. Cosy bars serve up warming beverages, hearty meals are dished up in the restaurants and the locals don their Tassie tuxedo’s (a black puffer jacket) and head out to celebrate the season.
There are plenty of amazing events to experience this winter in Tasmania so grab your mittens and a beanie and head out to enjoy Tasmania’s ‘Off Season’.

Huon Valley Mid Winter Festival
16 – 17 July 2021
The Huon Valley Mid Winter Festival is a celebration of the region’s apple-picking history along with a unique wassail ceremony. Drawing on pagan traditions from apple cider regions in southwest England, wassailing is done to scare away evil spirits by hanging pots and pans and awaking the apple trees with the Wassail song, before blessing them with cider from the previous year’s harvest. This unique festival is complete with a giant Burning Man (made of wood), live music, food, and plenty of cider.
Make sure you wear your best ‘pagan’ attire for the best-dressed competition!
