Hobart Zoo & Aquarium – Where Wildlife Meets Wonder

Just 30 minutes from Hobart, nestled in the scenic Coal River Valley near historic Richmond, Hobart Zoo & Aquarium offers unforgettable opportunities to learn about, appreciate and interact with animals from Tasmania, Australia, and around the world.

Under new ownership and visionary leadership.

Since August 2024, Hobart Zoo & Aquarium has been under dynamic new ownership, bringing a bold and ambitious vision to life. With a focus on animal welfare, guest experience, sustainability and community inclusion, the zoo is evolving into a world-class destination like never before.

New developments include:

Tasmania’s largest public aquarium, showcasing local marine and freshwater life.
A fully air-conditioned and weatherproof main building with a new café, retail shop and large indoor adventure playground
Five new outdoor playgrounds and adventure areas
A deep commitment to accessibility, education and conservation

Guests can hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies, meet wombats, curious emus and barnyard favourites like miniature Highland Cows. Explore the walk-in aviary, with bird feeding at 10am and 1pm, and enjoy daily keeper talks and interactive animal experiences.

Backed by a passionate team led by Life Sciences Manager Mandy Prestage and bold future plans, Hobart Zoo & Aquarium is becoming much more than a zoo—it’s a place for connection, learning and fun for all ages.
