Alabama offers boutique budget rooms in the heart of Hobart. The original pubs’ rooms have been given a new lease on life in this latest version of an old Hobart institution. Each of the 17 rooms is unique, decorated with original art, vintage touches and a personal vibe not found in sterile hotel chains.
The Alabama rooms have remained in their original layout since the hotel was opened in the 1850s. While this means there are no ensuite bathrooms, there are a number of male and female showers and facilities on each floor. It also means that the hotel can keep prices as low as possible for guests looking for clean and comfortable accommodation that doesn’t break the bank.
The Alabama is about as central as you can get in Hobart, just a couple of doors down from the Elizabeth Street Mall. The hotel is easy walking distance to Hobart’s vibrant waterfront, excellent city restaurants and pubs, weekend markets and the best coffee in town. The gorgeous deco-façade makes a fantastic backdrop when sitting on the hotel’s sunny balcony, watching Hobart go by.
We acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their enduring custodianship of lutruwita / Tasmania. We honour 40,000 years of uninterrupted care, protection and belonging to these islands, before the invasion and colonisation of European settlement. As a destination that welcomes visitors to these lands, we acknowledge our responsibility to represent to our visitors, Tasmania’s deep and complex history, fully, respectfully and truthfully.
We acknowledge the Aboriginal people who continue to care for this country today. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present. We honour their stories, songs, art, and culture, and their aspirations for the future of their people and these lands. We respectfully ask that tourism be a part of that future.
