Paul Hazel

Paul Hazel brings a unique perspective to capturing the landscapes of southern Tasmania. Despite a career as a nurse in the theatres of the Royal Hobart, Paul’s journey into photography began around four years ago.

Originally from Brisbane, Paul’s initiation into the world of DSLR photography was spurred by a desire to capture the southern Aurora for his father, who held an unwavering fascination for this celestial phenomenon. Little did he know that this foray would evolve into a profound passion for photography.

In the ensuing years, Paul has cultivated a deep affection for the diverse locales surrounding nipaluna/Hobart. Armed with his cameras and an array of lenses, he navigates the city and its outskirts, often during the early hours and night. This nocturnal pursuit serves as a therapeutic escape from the demands of his role in the medical field, providing a counterpoint to the intensity of his work.

Behind the lens, Paul captures the essence of southern Tasmania, transforming everyday scenes into evocative visual narratives. His photographic explorations after dark showcase his technical prowess and reveal a keen eye for the subtle interplay of light and shadow.

Paul’s artistic journey is complemented by the unwavering support of his partner, the Pixie Fox, (renowned as Tasmania’s most patient wife). Together, they navigate the intricacies of Paul’s nocturnal photographic escapades, creating a balance between passion and domestic life.

In the realm of photography, Paul stands as a testament to the transformative power of pursuing one’s artistic inclinations later in life. His images capture southern Tasmania’s beauty and reflect the therapeutic and rejuvenating impact of a dedicated pursuit of passion
