Simon Gregory

Meet Simon, a passionate photographer and the creative mind behind Funktacula Fotography, a venture that has carved its niche in the vibrant world of visual storytelling.

Simon’s connection with the island of Tasmania was established in February 2022, when his partner’s aspirations led them to this picturesque southern haven. Her dream job at the University of Tasmania became the catalyst for their move, opening the door to a new chapter in their lives. Since then, the family of four has embarked on countless escapades, spending weekends enveloped in the mesmerising landscapes and charming locales that southern Tasmania boasts.

Hailing from New South Wales, Simon’s journey as a photographer took root amidst the bustling creative scene of Sydney. His artistry caught the attention of both connoisseurs and casual admirers, as his exhibitions became a visual feast for the senses. Additionally, Simon’s images found their way into the hearts and homes of individuals through market sales, cementing his position as a skilled photographer with a unique perspective.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Simon’s thirst for knowledge and a deeper connection with his new home led him to pursue a certificate in Tourism at Tas TAFE. This educational pursuit not only enhanced his understanding of the state’s rich tapestry but also infused his work with newfound insights and perspectives. Armed with a comprehensive knowledge of Tasmania’s captivating history, culture, and natural wonders, Simon’s photography began to reflect not just the physical beauty of the land but also its soul.

Behind the lens, Simon’s gear of choice is a testament to his commitment to his craft. The Panasonic S1R, coupled with a collection of exquisite Sigma lenses, forms his primary toolkit, enabling him to capture the intricate details and breathtaking panoramas that define Tasmania’s essence. For more intimate and spontaneous moments, he wields the Panasonic LX 100 mark ii, a compact companion that allows him to encapsulate the fleeting nuances of urban life.

In Simon’s own words, his love for photography knows no bounds. His passion for freezing moments in time, for revealing the world’s inherent beauty, is the driving force behind every click of the shutter. Through his lens, Tasmania’s soul is bared for all to see, inviting us to share in his awe and appreciation for this breathtaking state.

As he continues to explore, learn, and capture the essence of Tasmania, Simon Gregory remains an indispensable figure in the realm of photography, enriching the visual narrative of the island he now calls home.
